World records and a pace chart

Two new reference pages: the official world records with the pace behind each one, and a chart running from 2:50 to 8:00 per kilometre.

Two pages joined the guides this week, and both exist for the same reason: sometimes you do not want a calculator, you want a table you can scan.

What the record actually means

The world records page lists the official marks and, next to each, the pace that produced it. A marathon time is an abstraction until you see the per-kilometre pace beside it and realise it is a number you have run — once, downhill, for about ninety seconds. The records are kept in a curated file rather than pulled from some external service at page load, so the page is fast and never breaks because someone else's API is down.

The pace chart

The race pace chart runs from 2:50 to 8:00 per kilometre and gives you the finish time at every distance for each row. Useful for the middle of a long run, when the arithmetic has stopped being available to you.

Dates and times across the site also now follow the conventions of whatever language you are reading, rather than the American ones.
