Bring your Garmin history
How to ask Garmin for your account's file and bring all your runs into Calcpace at once.
Garmin sends anyone who asks a ZIP file with the data of their Garmin account, including the file of every activity their watch recorded. Send that file to Calcpace and your runs and walks come in at once, with map and splits when the file has them, and heart rate with your consent.
Your whole history comes, and you don't need to connect Garmin or Strava to Calcpace.
The essentials
- 1.On the Garmin website, open your account's Data Management › Export Your Data and tap “Request Data Export”.
- 2.When Garmin's email arrives, download the ZIP.
- 3.In Calcpace, open Settings › Bring your history and send the ZIP, without opening it.
How to ask Garmin for the file
- Sign in to your Garmin account on the Garmin website. A phone's browser works too.
- Open Data Management, then Export Your Data.
- Tap “Request Data Export”.
Open the page on Garmin's site
Garmin emails a download link to the address on your Garmin account when the file is ready. This can take a few days, and the link only works for a while.
How to send it to Calcpace
- In Garmin's email, tap the link and download the ZIP.
- In Calcpace, open Settings › Bring your history and pick the ZIP as it came, without opening or unzipping it.
- Once the upload is done, you can close the app: the reading goes on by itself. When it ends, the home screen shows how many runs came in, and the Android app sends a notification, if they are on.
The ZIP can be up to 2 GB. You can send it from the app or the website, on a phone or a computer, with the same account.
What comes in
- Runs and walks, treadmill runs included, with the name you gave them on Garmin Connect.
- Map, splits, chart and heart rate (with your consent), from the watch's own file.
- Rides, swims, strength workouts and other sports stay out, and so does an activity with no distance.
What doesn't come in twice
- A run that is already here, sent as a file, recorded in the app or typed in, doesn't come in again.
- A run that came from your phone through Health Connect or Apple Health gives way to the watch's file, unless you added a photo, a file or an edit to it.
- A run that came through the Strava connection stays hidden behind the one from Garmin, so it doesn't show twice.
- Sending the same file again duplicates nothing.
Privacy
From the ZIP we read only your activities' files and their names and start times: your profile, sleep, health data and everything else in it are never opened. The ZIP is deleted as soon as the reading ends, and the runs start out visible only to you.
If something goes wrong
- “This file is not a ZIP”: send the file as Garmin sent it, without opening or unzipping it.
- “This file isn't a Strava or Garmin export”: it's another ZIP, not the one from Garmin's email. Send the ZIP that link downloads, as it came.
- “Part of the Garmin export is damaged”: the download was cut short. Download the ZIP again and send it.
- It stopped halfway: send the same file again. What already came in doesn't duplicate.
- Account without sign-up: the import opens once you save the account with an email and password.
