Your zones, without a signal

A Zones page the installed app keeps on your phone — open it at the trailhead, in airplane mode, and it is there.

The one thing people open here more than once a week is the training zones: five pace bands and, with a max heart rate set, five heart-rate zones, all derived from your current VO2max. And the moment you actually want them is minutes before a hard session, outdoors, where coverage is whatever the street decides. So the zones now have a page of their own, and the installed app keeps it on the phone.

A page, a tab, a shortcut

Signed in on a phone, there is a new Zones tab in the bar at the bottom — Training, Log, Zones, Calculate, Profile. On the dashboard, the training-zones card's heading now opens the same page. And if you have the app on your home screen (Android or iOS — see the post about installing it), a long press on the icon offers "Zones" as a shortcut straight to it.

The page carries nothing but the zones and the moment they were calculated. That last line matters more than it looks, and the next section says why.

Open it once, then it stays

The first time you open the page with a connection, the app keeps a copy. From then on, opening it without one — airplane mode, a valley, a basement gym — shows that copy, with a notice saying so and the timestamp underneath telling you how old it is. Launch the installed app with no signal at all and it lands on the zones directly, because that is the page you came for.

With a connection, nothing is ever served from the copy: every visit asks the server first and replaces what was kept. The copy is a fallback, not a source — your zones move as your fitness does, and a page that quietly showed you last month's would be worse than no page.

What is kept, and when it goes

Only that one page is kept, and only on your own device. Signing out removes it. So does deleting your account or changing your password, and so does the app noticing that your session has ended for any other reason — someone picking up the phone after you does not get your heart-rate zones. Nothing else on the site is stored offline: the dashboard, your runs and the calculators still need a connection, as they always did.

Elsewhere

Also in this release: right after signing in, the front page no longer shows you the signed-out version your browser had kept from a minute earlier.
